The Scarborough Subway Extension project is a 6.2 km extension of Line 2 from Kennedy Station to Scarborough Centre, via Eglinton Avenue, Danforth Road and McCowan Road. The extension will create a seamless journey for customers by eliminating the transfer at Kennedy Station. The Line 2 extension is required to replace the aging Line 3 Scarborough.

In October 2013, City Council confirmed support for an extension of Line 2. In March 2017, City Council confirmed support for the one-stop McCowan alignment from Kennedy Station to Scarborough Centre. The Municipal, Provincial and Federal Governments have each committed funding to make the extension a reality.

The future Scarborough Centre Station will be located on the west side of McCowan Road, between Triton Road and Progress Avenue beneath a future extension of Borough Drive. The project also includes a bus terminal to serve local and regional routes.

Current Work

On October 30, 2017, the Transit Project Assessment Process was completed with the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change’s Notice to Proceed, which satisfies the requirements of the Environmental Assessment Act. As part of the process an Environmental Project Report was prepared to document the impacts, mitigation and monitoring associated with the project as well as the planning process and consultation activities.

Details contained in the report include:

  • existing and future environmental conditions,
  • the preferred alignment, station location and bus terminal,
  • construction methods, and
  • impacts, mitigation and monitoring measures.
