Beginning in mid-February, 2012, roofing work will be conducted to the TTC’s Danforth Transportation Division Office and Garage located in the south-east area of the Danforth/Coxwell intersection. This work is scheduled for completion by mid-July 2012.

Temporary Controls

During the roofing work, measures will be taken to minimize dust by lightly watering down the roof when required.

The traditional method of roofing using liquefied asphalt and heating kettles will not be used on this project, but rather an alternative application method that will result in fewer odours.

Work Hours and Night Work

General work hours are between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.  However, as roofing work is normally carried out during daytime hours and is subject to harsh weather conditions, the contractor may be required to work weekends in order to complete critical stages of work.

For safety reasons, some night work will be scheduled to carry out the permanent removal of the rooftop skylights situated above the transportation offices and the installation of a replacement roof deck at that location.

Contractor Compound/ Roof Access

The Contractor’s first days on site will consist of establishing a temporary working compound at the southeast corner of the garage, and a small staging/storage area on the north side of the building. The compound will house roofing materials and equipment and will be the worker’s primary access point to the rooftop.

Site Access

Vehicle access to and from the site will be via the entrance at Hillingdon Avenue immediately south of Danforth Avenue.

Delivery and Disposal

Material deliveries and disposal of refuse will be conducted on an as required basis. Deliveries to the contractor’s compound will not occur before 7:00 a.m. or after 7:00 p.m.  Refuse from the roof will be disposed of through a drop-shoot from the roof into a disposal bin placed in the contractor’s temporary working compound.

Additional Work

Included in this work is the installation of a new permanent exterior metal staircase at the south side the garage, which will provide for direct access to the roof.

We regret any inconvenience that may be caused as a result of this work.
