Frequently Asked Questions About Booking a Trip with Wheel-Trans
How do I pay for my ride?
A TTC fare is paid directly to the driver at time of boarding. You may use senior/student or children tickets, tokens, a transit pass or pay the exact cash fare. Bus and taxi drivers do not sell senior/student or children tickets, passes or tokens, nor can they make change.
What if I do not have the correct fare?
Bus drivers and taxi drivers do not sell tickets, tokens, passes or make change. If you do not have the correct fare at the time of boarding, you are required to forward the fare within five days to the Wheel-Trans office at:
580 Commissioners Street, Toronto, ON M4M 1A7
Does my escort/caregiver have to pay a fare?
Yes, each person travelling on Wheel-Trans must pay a TTC fare to the driver when boarding the vehicle.
What is a Pickup Window?
The half-hour window or time range is given when a trip is booked. This window provides flexibility for the computerized scheduling system to provide more rides for Wheel-Trans customers prior to confirming scheduled exact times.
For example, an arrival request of 9:00a.m. may result in a pick-up window time of between 8:00a.m. and 8:30a.m. Actual window times will depend on the distance to be travelled and whether the ride is shared with other customers.
The exact time, within this window, may be confirmed the evening before the ride or on the same day of service.
Will the driver wait for me if I am late?
The driver will wait five minutes past the pick up time. If you do not show up at this time, the driver will leave to serve the next customer. For this reason, and in order to ensure you do not miss your ride, it is suggested that you be ready and waiting five minutes prior to your pick up time.
Will the driver knock on my door when he arrives for me?
No, the driver will not knock on doors, ring doorbells or buzz apartments. The exception is when the driver is running 20 minutes behind schedule. The driver is required to announce his/her arrival at public locations such as hospitals, shopping malls etc.
Will the driver assist me from my home to the vehicle?
Yes, the driver will offer assistance from the first accessible entrance to the vehicle and back from the vehicle through the first accessible entrance. The driver will not assist wheelchairs/scooters up or down more than one step and will not assist with personal articles. Please ensure you travel with an escort if this type of assistance is required.
Can someone travel with me?
Yes, you may be accompanied by one escort weekdays, Monday to Friday. Additional escorts are permitted on weekends and statutory holidays. Please advise the Reservationists when you are booking the trip if you are taking an escort with you.
You may request additional escorts weekdays, space permitting. To do this, contact the Reservations office at 416-393-4222 two hours before your pick up to check on space availability. Your escort does not have to be registered with Wheel-Trans and must pay a TTC fare.
What is Airport Service?
Registered Wheel-Trans customers may travel to and from Toronto's Lester B. Pearson International Airport. Call the Wheel-Trans Reservations office at 416-393-4222 the day before service. No same day service requests are accepted. Regular TTC senior/student or children tickets, passes and cash fares apply with no additional cost required.
