Accessible TTC Buses

The TTC has more than 1,000 accessible buses running on more than 100 accessible routes. You will recognize an accessible bus stop by the blue international wheelchair symbol on the bus stop pole. An accessible bus has a blue international wheelchair symbol on the front door-side corner of the vehicle, and by the blue lights on either side of the route destination sign above the wind shield.

Accessible TTC Subway Stations

TTC elevators serve 30 of the system’s 69 subway and Scarborough RT stations. These elevators are specially designed for people in wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, with other mobility devices or baby strollers. The TTC’s elevator installation project (Easier Access Phase 3) is scheduled to make the remaining 39 stations accessible by 2024 with the addition of elevators, easier access fare gates, automatic sliding doors and other modifications. The TTC also operates and maintains 294 escalators throughout the subway/rt system.

TTC riders using wheelchairs/scooters and other mobility devices can travel on all subway trains (and Scarborough RT trains). However, your travelling experience is made easier by specially designed wheelchair positions on the TTC’s fully accessible subway cars. These are the T-1 cars and there are more than 370 of them in service. They make up more than 50 per cent of the TTC’s subway car fleet. The easiest way to identify a fully accessible subway car is by looking for the blue international wheelchair symbol displayed on the outside of each car of a T-1 train, and similar decals on the inside of the vehicle where the wheelchair/scooter position is located. Each T-1 car has an allocated wheelchair/scooter location, which consists of a flip-up row of seats, wheelchair lock for spoked wheels, release button and lever, handhold and Passenger Assistance Alarm strip. Unlike buses, Driver (or Guard) assistance is not available for securing wheelchairs or scooters on subway or Scarborough RT trains.
